Merry Christmas Post

Well, Christmas day started nice and icey, here, which was not a problem, though it did make my morning constitutional rather exciting in a precarious way.  Gifts have been exchanged, a prime rib is gently roasting in the oven for the Christmas feast, and libations of all types are readily at hand, no matter what an individual’s taste may be.

Christmas Eve dinner, with close friends, was once again a smash, and not simply because of the champagne, though it flowed generously, courtesy of RB.  We served Butter Poached Lobster w/Tarragon & Champagne.

This is the fourth year in a row the lovely Melis has prepared this culinary delight, and I must say that this dish, though rather labor intensive, is more than worth the intensive labor.  And though I typically do not imbibe in champagne, the Louis Roederer Brut Premier, served with the meal, was melodious accompaniment (thank you again RB).  If you desire to prepare yourself this dish, I recommend a good and crusty french bread baquette to sop up all the juices.

Now, my gift to those of you who may be casually clicking through the internet.  Pictures of the year 2009: animals eating each other.  There are 29 photos in this slide show, and each photo is quite good.  My personal favorite is photo 27, but I am very curious to know if anyone has ever dined on “Snake-bitten Chicken” (see photo 9).
