“Tools That Control A Mind”

While many American individuals will staunchly deny it, propaganda is playing a large role in controlling their minds and actions.  Propaganda is a tool which has been very effectively employed in America, with the full complicity of the government and their main mouthpiece, the mainstream media.

Here are a couple of interesting reads on the subject of how effectively propaganda is being used in America, which is a method of control perfected by the Soviets, and a lesson learned well by American politicians aspiring to power and control.

First, via Tim in comments to a recent post, Eric S. Raymond’s Februray 2006 essay titled Gramscian damage, which ends with this way.

...I fear that if the rest of us don’t hound the po-mo Left and its useful idiots out of public life with attack and ridicule and shunning, the hard Right will sooner or later get the power to do it by means that include a lot of killing. I don’t want to live in that future, and I don’t think any of my readers do, either. If we want to save a liberal, tolerant civilization for our children, we’d better get to work.

Secondly, at American Thinker, an essay titled The Socialist Mind Game: A Brief Manual, from which the following quote was obtained.

The Game has its logic: for socialism to work, there has to be unanimity and compliance.  Dissent leads to system malfunctions, causing hardship for all those in the care of the state.  That effectively makes the dissenter a traitor and a public enemy.  The need to suppress opposition necessitates a totalitarian form of government.  While we aren’t at that stage yet, the demonization of dissenters has already begun.

  1. John,

To me, the money quote was,

Maintain the perception of being constantly under attack.  Don’t examine the opponents’ beliefs, nor answer their arguments.  Discredit any media channels that offer them a platform.  Enforce the following media template: the opposition is evil, treasonous, unfathomable, and psychotic.  They can’t be reasoned with.  They are inspired by fascism and financed by a conspiracy of shady oligarchs.  Defame their donors.  Whatever the mischief you’re planning to pull off, accuse them of doing it first; then proceed as planned, describing your actions as a necessary intervention.  And above all, ridicule, ridicule, ridicule!

Imagine a scenario in which a theoretical group of left-wing radicals takes over America by playing the Game as described; then answer this question: how would their actions be different from what Obama, the Democrat Party, and their allies are doing today?

While th US is certainly not in the position Russia was in, in the early 20th century, there are striking similarities.

The move to the left of the upper classes and so-called intielligentsia. The uniformity of opinion within the main-stream media (and Hollywood in our day & age).

The so-called opinion leaders have been organized and lined up in support of the ‘narrative.’

As the economy collapses, as it inevitably will on its present course, many Americans who had not really felt the pinch of a failing economy, will be severly impacted. They will be angry, furious. How could this have happened? Who is responsible? What’s to be done?

The main stream media and Hollywood will provide them with their villains. Many, hell most, not wanting to do the hard thinking required to really analyze the situation, not willing to accept the part they have played in helping this come about, and certainly not wanting to face the real pain involved with doing what is now required to correct the path we are on, will gladly accept the provided version. They will also gladly accept the snake oil solutions offered by unctuous politicians, community organizers, and so-called opinion leaders. And they will lash out with true hatred at those perceived as the cause of their problems. Few things are dumber than an angry mob.

It’s as old as ancient Athens & Rome. More recently with the technological advances of the industrial age, small minorities were able to seize control in Russia and Germany and then hold onto it and expand. To willing audiences no less. At least at first. After control was secured, support could be elicited (or coerced) through ‘other means.’

One good thing this past national election did, was make the socialist left feel comfortable and secure enough to begin to let the mask slip. Though anyone with eyes could have easily looked through it anyway, but it is now becoming undenyably obvious.

The question is, can the course still be corrected, or is it too late?
