The Count

Many news reports, have noted that one thousand military personnel have died in Iraq.  Some, have noted this in rather dubiously selected language.

"U.S. military deaths in the Iraq campaign passed the 1,000 milestone Tuesday,...."

Milestone?

While the fact that military individuals are dying in Iraq is news, what is the count?  Is the count news, or, is the count simply a means, or fodder, for those who want to use the military deaths in Iraq as a soap box?  When the count of military deaths in Iraq reaches the “milestone” of equaling the number of deaths in the World Trade Center, will the count become even more earnest, more heart rending?

“U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq Pass 1,000."

  3. She works for AP unless her position has changed since the last time I ran across her work. She specializes in writing about Middle Eastern Affrairs. She is Pakastani in origin, if I’m not much m,istaken, which means she can pass as a local with greater ease than, say, Margaret Carlson could, if you catch my drift.

Tomorrows headline:  New milestone in Iraq: 1001 U.S. dead

Seems each day brings a new “milestone” for Iraq.  While I mourn for those whose loved ones gave their lives, I fully support all our troops serving in Iraq and anywhere else in the World.

  7. Anti-war, Commondreams, etc are all hard leftist sites. I won’t even address the CNN and CBS issues.

  8. The Anarchist <--> Liberal/Communism connection surprises you my Friend?

  9. “...leftist sites...” Correct, that they are as are CBS and CNN which is why I grouped them together. Not only are they leftist but anti-war in Iraq as well.

I find it important to read not only conservative sites but left leaning as well.  It keeps things in perspective.

All I was pointing out was the negative swing of the media in regards to the events in Iraq...thats the “milestone” of the media.  Too bad it can’t be a millstone for them.

If the websites I posted label me as a conservative, which is what I believe Bithead is implying, I will wear that label proudly.

“Anarchist <--> Liberal/Communism” I am neither anarchist, nor liberal nor communist.

  10. It’s possible I missed your intent in your original post.

That said however, the ‘perspective’ you apparently seek from such sites seems equal to drinking urine for the purpose of clearing the palate before a fine meal. I’ve grown weary of trying to take such sources seriously, even for the purposes of ‘persoective’. So, too, are most Americans, if e can take the falling viewership numbers for such sources.

You have to remember thats its always important to know the thinking of your “enemy” no matter what the battle.

  12. It’s not hard to figure out, what they’re thinking.... particularly in this pass, with Kerry, when they show quite clearly that they lack the *capacity* to think.
