Slaves Cannot Vote Themselves Free

The recent news regarding the number of United States individuals who DO NOT pay taxes raised some hackles.  Glenn Reynolds referenced the news, so I commented with a simple question for Glenn.  I then saw the same sentiment Reynolds expressed at the Gunslinger’s Journal in a post titled “I don’t pay no stinking Taxes…”, so I left a couple of comments there.

Van, who runs the blog Blogodidact, also joined the discussion at Gunslinger’s, and then gathered many of the thoughts and ideas expressed there into a blog post of his own titled No Representation Without Taxation!... Ye…(blink)... WTF?!, which I was interested in reading, so I did.

Van’s post covers alot, and I mean alot, of territory, and it is interesting territory, but when the boundaries of Van’s post are consolidated, what has been corralled is voting.  Van does note that America is currently at war, a war of ideas, and he is correct about the vital importance of ideas in this war, but he still comes back to voting as the means to win the battle of ideas.  I think Van is incorrect.

I renounced voting back in January 2004, and I cannot see myself reneging.  It took me some time to arrive at this decision, but it is a sound decision.  Certain individuals’ writings and expressions on this idea about not voting did assist my thought processes.  Billy Beck, is one of those individuals.  Click on that link and type the word “voting” into the search box at Billy’s site, and you will find fifty-one (51) posts to peruse on the idea of not voting, or the fallacy of the voting process itself.

One of the links provided in Billy’s archives takes you to a Magnifisyncopatholgical post titled Don’t Vote, which has many additional accumulated thoughts and links on the fallacy of voting.  Another excellent articulation on the idea of not voting, found during the search at Billy Beck’s site, is titled None of the Above and Never Again, which is posted at the site Human Advancement.

Slaves cannot vote themselves free, and I am not a slave.
