Passing the Responsibility Buck
The headline “Internet blamed in spread of syphilis among gays."
The first paragraph from the linked article.
"The Internet has played a significant role in the latest increase in cases of syphilis among gay men by introducing partners more likely to practice high-risk sex, according to a study released on Wednesday."
I don’t care what your sexual proclivities are, or how many partners you may meet whether on the internet, on the street, or in a bar, blaming anything other than yourself for acquiring any STD is simply denying the fact that you are individually responsible. You can’t get an STD sitting, alone, at your computer.
Via Drudge.
I think you may be missing the point John.
The Internet gives people an ability that they didn’t possess before.
It is kind of like the notion that there were no air plane crashes before air planes were invented. Prior to that point no one ever had to worry about being killed by falling out of the sky.
Similarly the internet allows people with bizarre fetishes or kinks to meet and hook up where they might not have had that ability prior to the existence of the Internet. It allows for instant gratification. It’s expedient.

I’m glad that we agree on the point that Individuals are responisible for their own actions. (… of course that statement is also a direct denial of the notion of “free will” …)
But the point is that not all individuals have the same capability for Action.
Some individuals are more evolved for action than other Gravitons. This evolution is in the form of “steps’, and each step is essentially an algorithm.
Like an algorithm for walking (i.e. controlling “legs”).
… or an algorithm for building (or driving/controlling) a Car.
… or an algorithm that gives you the ability to have quick, “care-free” sex.
Your wife (or child) may be ill equiped to kill you because of your physical size and strength, but give your wife (or child) a loaded gun (a meme/an algorithm), and suddenly they can kill you with relative ease.
They are the one pulling the trigger, but it is the Gun (the algorithm) that gives them the ability. Without the gun that action (killing you) is unavailable to them. It isn’t even an option.
