“If Wishes Were Horses,” The Obama Ranch

Lucinda Williams has a new album out titled Little Honey, which, by the way, is an excellent album, and I recommend it highly, and though I wouldn’t mind writing a few more words of praise for Lucinda’s most fine recent effort, this post is not about something that is produced by an actual producer.

The album contains a cut titled If Wishes Were Horses and I immediately thought of this tune, and its recurring chorus;

But if wishes were horses, I’d have a ranch…

when I read this headline, Obama increases jobs goal to 3 million, and the first paragraph from the piece.

President-elect Barack Obama has increased his employment goal with the nation’s economic outlook worsening, seeking to create or save 3 million jobs in the next two years instead of the 2.5 million he proposed last month.

Obama can wish for 2.5 million new jobs, 3 million new jobs, hell, 10 million new jobs, but he cannot produce a damn thing without taking, by force, from actual producers in an attempt to make his wish come true.  If wishes were horses, Obama would have the biggest damn ranch in the world.  And in a way Obama does have the biggest damn ranch in the world, but it isn’t a horse ranch, it’s a sheep ranch and the shearing has just begun.
