I Wonder What Mencken Would Write About This?

When I was reading A Mencken Chrestomathy, I had more than one laugh at his descriptions of the Scopes trial and the individuals residing in Rhea County, Tennessee.  I’m sure I would enjoy his insights on the happenings down in Rhea County today.

“The county that was the site of the Scopes “Monkey Trial” over the teaching of evolution is asking lawmakers to amend state law so the county can charge homosexuals with crimes against nature.”

  1. I had more than one laugh at his descriptions of the Scopes trial and the individuals residing in Rhea County.

    is that so?

    I have a question for you ...

If a minority of homosexuals can unilaterally change the definition of the term “marriage”, then why can’t a majority of Christians and Jews unilaterally change the definition of the term “Science”?

  2. Serpent - What do propose the definition of “Science” be changed to?

  3. I’m not proposing that it be changed.

I’m merely asking that if it is “acceptable” for one minority to redefine a term against the wishes of the majority, then why isn’t it acceptable for the majority redefine terms against the wishes of a minority?

You know me Mr. Venlet, when it comes to Logical Consistency I have a “one-track mind”, as you like to say.

  4. Isn’t it time to ban The Serpent?  He’s ruining your blog.  I don’t even like to read the comments anymore.

  5. Concerned -

I appreciate your comment and understand your distaste.  Though I hesitate to ban, it appears I may need to curtail the Serpent’s loquaciousness.  Thank you for expressing your thought.
