Gun Control Fail

Does legislating access to firearms work?  No.

In all of Mexico, there is only one gun store. The shop, known officially as the Directorate of Arms and Munitions Sales, is operated by the Mexican military. The clerks wear pressed green camouflage. They are soldiers.

The only gun store in Mexico is not very busy…

Mexico has some of the toughest gun-control laws in the world, a matter of pride for the nation’s citizens. Yet Mexico is awash in weapons…

From a Washington Post article titled In Mexico, only one gun store but no dearth of violence, linked via The Corner.

  1. Imagine that.
Whether you have gun laws or not, criminals still always have guns. How can this be?<s>

    Seriously though.
Criminals already have guns and couldn’t care less about laws.
So if they make more gun laws that turn me instantly into a criminal they have increased the number of criminals while doing nothing to prevent crime. What am I missing here?

Lastly, you must possess at least TWO guns, always. You see, if you discharge a firearm and the police are summoned your weapon will be confiscated pending an investigation, leaving you weaponless until it is returned to you, that is, if it doesn’t go *missing* from the evidence room like so many of the nicer ones do. So, if you only have 1 gun go out tomorrow and get another one.

  2. Yup, Don’s absolutely right on all counts.

I sure hope everyone realizes the difference between “criminal” as a legal term, which means someone who has done something prohibited by law, as opposed to genuine criminals who have harmed another person.

Maybe I set the bar too high.

  3. Jamaica is another place where incredibly strict gun control has utterly failed.  This is a post I wrote about my years spent there:

  4. GunRights4US,

Thanks for pointing to your post.  Causes one to wonder why the empirical evidence of gun control failure is so widely ignored.

  5. Seems like your brain never developed past the age of a child, thus, your handle.

Hopefully you’ll soon be victimized by that which you espouse.

  7. @CIJ, if all the criminal records associated with gun crimes from all the sheriff depts in the US and the FBI over a 30 year period were assembled into one concise package would you believe the results of that package?

Well guess what, that package has been assembled and it shows that by a large margin the counties in the US with the LEAST restrictive gun control laws enjoy the lowest violent crime rate. But don’t take my word for it, go read this stunning assembly of facts yourself right here: http://tinyurl.com/7jaelvm

Refuse to be ignorant CIJ, read and learn. You’re welcome.
