Great Little Black and White Film

Plopped down on the couch, last night, and popped in a film titled Coffee and Cigarettes.

The film has a list of actors ranging from Tom Waits, who is paired up with Iggy Pop, to Cate Blanchett, and is actually a series of short films spooled together around a common theme, coffee and cigarettes, and the conversations which ensue over these two ubiquitous mainstays of life.

No chase scenes, no special effects, unless you count Cate Blanchett’s short film where she plays both characters in the scene, and, best of all, wonderful black and white cinematography.

Enjoy.

  1. I know people who won’t watch it until it is colorized. I had a cow-orker years back who stopped watching Wizard of Oz after about 5 minutes because it was in black and white (during the Kansas portion).

On the other hand, when my son was about 12, he made me proud by coming home from our neighbor who had cable in tears because D.O.A. had been colorized.

  2. They just released the “colorized” versions of “The Three Stooges”  Why they feel the need to do this is beyond me.

The old B & W films are a great treat.  I enjoy them all.  Particularly the Jimmy Stewart movies.

John: Have you seen Anatomy of a Murder Yet?  Great B & W with James Stewart. It is based on a story by the famous Fly Fisher Robert Traver a.k.a. John Voelker.  If you have not and want to borrow it, I have it.
