Gilligan’s Island Mary Ann, Potato Peeling Wonder

Most individuals recall the show Gilligan’s Island, and Mary Ann.  I know I do.  Well, my Mum sent me a link to a YouTube video (1:49) that records about the slickest potato peeling trick I’ve ever seen.

I wish I would have known about this trick when I was growing up.  I was many times assigned the task of peeling potatoes for our family dinners, and when there are ten (10) of you sitting down to a meat and potato dinner, that makes for a passel of potatoes to peel.  We didn’t buy potatoes in ten (10) pound bags, but in fifty (50) and one hundred (100) pound bags, when I was growing up.  I still love ‘em, boiled, baked, fried, scallopped, what have you.

  1. I use that trick when I’m canning peaches, but they only need a few seconds in the boiling water to drop their skins like that.  Never thought to try it on spuds.

    She’s gotta be 69 or 70 now, eh?

  2. Bill, from what I find, it appears Mary Ann (Dawn Wells) was born October 18, 1938, so you were right in the ballpark.
