Culture of Helpless Dependency
Drudge links to a wcbstv.com story with a headline reading 911 Systems Swamped In Storm. The story provides the following information.
Nassau County officials are meeting to analyze why the county’s 911 system became overloaded during the weekend Nor’easter…
During the height of the storm, Mangano says some of the estimated 10,000 Nassau County 911 calls were transferred. They landed in emergency centers in nearby Suffolk County—or as far away as Albany. Typically, the system gets about 2,200 calls a day…
New York City experienced the second-highest volume of 911 calls ever in a 24-hour period—65,000 between 11 p.m. Friday and 11 p.m. Saturday…
Nassau Country “officials” can analyze all day long, but I would wager good money that at least ninety percent (90%) of these 911 calls were non-emergency related, i.e., my power’s out, a tree is down in my yard, a tree limb broke my window, a storm drain is clogged, or other such trivial matters which do not require an emergency response from the state, or warrant a 911 call.
Analysis of the 911 call overload will, I’m certain, only highlight the culture of helpless dependency of the masses upon which the State feeds and thrives.
