Armed, but Only Dangerous to Those Who Try to Claim What is Not Theirs
InstaPundit links to a post by David Kopel, over at The Volokh Conspiracy, titled The story of the armed community organizers, which looks into the history of armed communities, with an emphasis on the civil rights era and John Salter’s experiences during this time, which makes for interesting reading.
I am not a community organizer, but I do know that those neighbors of mine with whom I have shared the knowledge that I am armed, are grateful for the fact that I am armed, though they realize that I am not obligated to them for their protection. Be that as it may, they also understand that because I will not stand to be forcibly removed of my property, and accord full respect to theirs, that if I am witness to their property or persons being forcibly assaulted, in all probability I will be there in an armed capacity.
