Dead Horse Wisdom
“Ya mule, ya.” Do you remember that line from an old Bug’s Bunny cartoon, uttered by Yosemite Sam no less, as he beat the recalcitrant mule so he could go about his business, to no avail? Well, at Naked Villainy you can garner some dead horse wisdom which ties in nicely to the “Ya mule, ya” wisdom of Yosemite Sam. The post is titled “Beating a Dead Horse."

TLOP in Action?
A frequent commentor, here and at other venues, many times will reference the laws of physics, equating them to God.
It appears that embracing TLOP too tightly, is akin to winding a clock too tight.
"A University of Louisiana at Lafayette physics professor (Louis Houston ed.) was banned from the campus Wednesday and taken to the coroner’s office for evaluation after threatening his class, university officials said."
and this.
"Spears said Houston slapped a student and then told his class he was God."
I guess they took Houston to the coroner’s office for evaluation because Nietzsche stated God is dead.

Two Worth Reading
Billy Beck is off to the Bahamas, for a short jaunt, but he has not neglected leaving a couple of interesting posts to consider.
First, a post titled “Owl-Eyed Dipshits." A post which delves into economics, philosophy and the ignorance of ethics. Second, Billy links to a Mark Steyn piece, followed by a link to John Derbyshire’s comments on Steyn’s piece, in a post titled “Solemn Nod."

Forging Additional Chains of Slavery
"With political fund raising, campaign advertising and organizing taking place in full swing over the Internet, it may just be a matter of time before the Federal Election Commission joins the action. Well, that time may be now.
A recent federal court ruling says the FEC must extend some of the nation’s new campaign finance and spending limits to political activity on the Internet.
Long reluctant to step into online political activity, the agency is considering whether to appeal.
But vice chairwoman Ellen Weintraub said the Internet may prove to be an unavoidable area for the six-member commission, regardless of what happens with the ruling."
Did you catch that word “unavoidable” in that last sentence above? Evidently slavery is unavoidable. Can’t have free people out there doing what they want.

Update: "The concept that government may restrict the speech of some elements of our society, in order to enhance the relative voice of others, is wholly foreign to the First Amendment."

Hallejuah Brothers and Sisters, Hallejuah!
My oh my, John Edwards is predicting a revival.
“‘When John Kerry is president, people like Christopher Reeve are going to walk. Get up out of that wheelchair and walk again’... “
The current Drudge banner headline (12:23 P.M.), and the accompanying photo of Edwards, is reminiscent of a Mencken description of religious folk glorifyin’ bein’ saved.
My eyes have seen the glory. Boy oh boy.
Is It Even Art?
Billy Beck points out another illiterate member of the so called intellgentsia, this time an artist, and I use that term very loosely, who can’t seem to spell names like Einstein or Shakespeare, among others. Brilliant, just brilliant, and on the government’s nickle no less.
The offending artist’s name is Maria Alquilar, and almost more disturbing is her defense of her ignorance.
"The importance of this work is that it is supposed to unite people,” Alquilar said. “They are denigrating my work and the purpose of this work."
Denigrating your work, Maria, the unspecified “they” are not denigrating your work, they are denigrating your frickin ignorance.

Politically Correct Idiots Look a Gift Horse in the Mouth
"A group of California women aged from 51 to 84 posed for a racy calendar to raise money for their local firehouse, but the town turned down the cash as too hot to handle."
Why actually did they turn down the money? The town’s attorney speaks.
"It would open us up to workplace causes of action such as sexual harassment and hostile environment and things of that nature,” Freeman said. “This is the kind of thing that just can’t be done in the workplace ... It runs the risk of offending people."
I’m trying to visualize the offensiveness of the photos, and the “people” it would offend. Were the women using the hydrant wrenches in ways beyond the means, the ladders, or was it the hoses? Of course the town won’t think twice about taking the money coercively.

Blaming the Wrong Guy
Ken Bigley was evidently killed, by beheading, in Iraq. Though the majority of Mr. Bigley’s family seem to believe that the British government did all they could to procure Ken Bigley’s release, Ken’s brother states Tony Blair has "blood on his hands”.
Though I can sympathize with the possibility of this being a remark made in haste and shock at Ken’s death, the brother is blaming the wrong guy. It’s the damn Islamofascists that should be blamed, not Tony Blair.

Update on the Canadian Submarine
The other day, I mentioned, with a thank goodness for no deaths, the fire stricken Canadian submarine. I’ve been following this story, with empathy, as the sub drifted, powerless in the Atlantic. Though the sub was drifting, as many articles I read noted, wallowing in the sea would be a more apt description due to the unique design of submarines where the majority of the hull is below the surface.
I note this morning, that one crewmember has died as a result of the fire, and another is in critical condition, as mentioned here.
I certainly hope they get that damn thing into port, soon.

It's Tough Being Marginalized, Isn't It Chirac?
"The outspoken French president warned that the world’s different cultures could be “choked” by US values.
This, he said, would lead to a “general world sub-culture” based around the English language, which would be “a real ecological catastrophe".”
The French have brought us good wines, some fine cheeses, and the Statue of Liberty, but, beyond that, nothing but petulant attitudes, a penchant for surrenduring, and a knack for embracing left leaning, Socialist minded blowhards.

Quick Thought on Big Screen Teevees
I was just sitting on the front porch; almost perfect fall evening; enjoying a shot of freezered Stoli and a cigar. While relaxing, there on the front porch, three different homes, within my realm of vision, beamed their big screen teevee pictures out into the night. I could easily distinquish a soccer game, a baseball game, and an interview taking place.
Due to the narrow lots in my neck of the woods, the home closest to my position on the front porch, sharing their choice of teevee programming, was approximately 150 feet away.
I don’t know, I like big teevee screens and all, but I just can’t see it.
Space Cowboys, On a Leash
I was pleased that SpaceShipOne won that 10 million earlier this week. Private individuals soaring into the realm of space. But, reality is dogging their heels.
"The rules that will govern the industry in the United States remain under discussion between federal regulators and rocket developers, and legislation is still before Congress.
The pace of negotiations and the ultimate shape of the regulations could determine whether the sky-high enthusiasm for space tourism — fueled by the historic suborbital flights of SpaceShipOne — grows or wanes, especially among investors."
Did you catch that? "The rules that will govern the industry...."

Importing More Than Democracy, Evidently
The Afghanis are learning quickly, evidently, the high art of blaming other factors for various travails, an art form developed and honed in the U.S.
"The Afghan government on Thursday blamed drug smugglers not Taliban or al-Qaida fighters for a bomb attack on interim leader Hamid Karzai’s vice presidential running mate, saying the country’s landmark elections are a threat to their business."
“Drug Smugglers Blamed in Afghan Attack."
Things most be better there than we realize.
The Latest in Muzzleloaders
"The credit card-sized shotgun is a muzzleloader, meaning it doesn’t use shotgun shells. The user has to measure out some gunpowder, pour it in each barrel, drop seven BBs in each barrel, and tamp in a small wad of paper. A knob on one end serves as a safety, and two buttons set into a hole in the body are the electrical triggers. Each barrel fires with a loud pop."
Though I doubt The Deerslayer would have been as successful in the field with the above weapon, as his reputation warranted, never-the-less, like most independent individuals, who would rather rely on their own abilities for protection than trust to the State, the above would have been a servicable accoutrement for those close in emergency encounters.
